They can help you convert more users from viral user referrals. If you think I\u2019m overselling it \u2013 keep reading.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, according to our <a href=\"https:\/\/userpilot.com\/saas-product-onboarding\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State of SaaS Onboarding research<\/a> \u2013 33% of SaaS companies don\u2019t have them at all.<\/p>\n<p>So, how to design the perfect product welcome page for your SaaS to turn it into a tool for segmentation, personalization, and <a href=\"https:\/\/userpilot.com\/blog\/conversion-rate-optimization-for-saas\/\">conversion rate optimization<\/a>? You will find all the answers below!<\/p>\n<h2>What is a welcome screen?<\/h2>\n<p>Welcome screens, also called welcome pages, are the first thing that users see when they log in to your application for the first time. They usually include important information to guide users and can include a survey to collect valuable data for personalization.<\/p>\n<p>A welcome screen is often combined with a SaaS welcome email to capture a user&#8217;s attention and <a href=\"https:\/\/userpilot.com\/blog\/product-success\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide them toward success<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why do you need a welcome screen for your app? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at a few reasons why having a welcome screen is essential for your SaaS product.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Little gestures like greeting them by their first name, introducing yourself (with your photo for the extra personal touch), and letting them know what they can expect next go a long way.<\/p>\n<p>But being cutesy with your welcome screen message will not compensate for poor new user onboarding. Your users want to reach their professional goals with your tool and meet their expectations as fast as possible. We are here to do business, not make friends after all.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why it is so important to use your welcome screen to segment your new users, and then show them the right experience flow that will get them where they want to go.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2. Segment your users\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Now, depending on how complex your product is you may be targeting several different personas, who want to do very different things inside your app.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take our own example: <a href=\"https:\/\/userpilot.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Userpilot<\/a> is a product growth platform for product teams.<\/p>\n<p>But what does this really mean? Personalize the onboarding journey to shorten time to value <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To follow up on what we\u2019ve discussed in the previous point \u2013 ConvertKit\u2019s onboarding flow really differs depending on your answer:<\/p>\n<p>If you said you are moving from another tool, it would make sense to ask which one and offer customized help with the move, right? Convert more people from user referrals<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Now, there are invites and there are invites.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re lucky enough to have a product with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geckoboard.com\/best-practice\/kpi-examples\/viral-coefficient\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>viral coefficient<\/strong><\/a> (meaning each of your users generates a certain number of new users by some sort of an invitation or referral \u2013 think early Facebook or Dropbox \u2013 a welcome screen will give you an opportunity to convert more of this kind of users.<\/p>\n<p>Each time a user sends an invite, you have an opportunity to convert the invitee into a new user.<\/p>\n<p>But you need to really sell the tool to such invitees \u2013 remember, they haven\u2019t made the decision to join themselves.
