You can run experiments (A/B, A/B/n, multivariate) and holdout tests on top of those flags.

Debug production: Error tracking catches errors as they happen and links them to the session replay of the user who hit them. Logs give you a searchable record of what your backend services report, and AI observability tracks what your AI features cost, how fast they respond, and how good their answers are.

Manage data and automate: The data warehouse pulls data from your databases and business tools like Stripe or your CRM, so you can analyze revenue and customer data alongside product usage. With Workflows, you can send email, SMS, and webhook messages triggered by user behavior.

How does the PostHog MCP work?

The PostHog MCP server lets an AI agent read and write data across PostHog’s products. As of October 2026, it offers 1,009 tools across 74 categories, from product analytics, SQL and error tracking to feature flags, experiments and surveys.

The MCP connects to Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, and any other MCP-capable client. You can ask for the week’s top errors with affected user counts, have the agent pull a stack trace and propose a fix, manage feature flags and experiments, or run SQL on your event data.

PostHog serves its tools in two modes:

Tools mode loads every tool’s schema individually.

CLI mode, recommended by PostHog for most clients, ships a single, token-optimized exec tool that the agent uses to list, search, inspect, and call tools on demand.

PostHog picks the mode based on your client: Claude Code and Codex default to CLI mode, and Cursor to tools mode.

The CLI mode is meant to save your tokens and context window. With over a thousand tools available, there’s no point loading them all upfront when a session only uses a few.

The catch is that to call the tools, the agent has to write the correct command text itself. If it gets it wrong, it gets an error back and has to retry. That eats up some of the tokens it’s designed to save.

That’s why I see the PostHog MCP as a tool for engineering teams that understand what happens under the hood. They can switch modes, filter tools, run read-only sessions, and pin a project to keep token use and risk in check.

How much does it cost to use PostHog MCP?

The PostHog MCP is available on every plan, including the free one. Connecting to it costs nothing extra. You only pay for the PostHog products behind it.

Standard usage billing applies to the data your queries draw on, and tools that use AI internally are billed as PostHog AI spend.

PostHog’s pricing has three layers:

Free: The full monthly free tier on every product, including 500 PostHog AI credits (worth $5), with unlimited team members, 1 project, and 1-year data retention. Usage stops at the free limits.

Pay-as-you-go: The free tier but with 6 projects, 7-year data retention, and email support. Once you exhaust the free allowance, per-product usage pricing with no caps kicks in. This gives scalability as your volume grows.

Platform packages: Boost at $250/month, Scale at $750/month, and Enterprise at custom pricing, adding features like SSO enforcement, SAML, and role-based access control.

For a market reference, Vendr’s procurement data puts PostHog’s median contract value at $58,173 a year, with deals ranging from $20,000 to $70,000 (as of October 2026).

What do you use Statsig for?

Statsig is an experimentation and feature-flag platform, available as a hosted or warehouse-native option. The brand was acquired by Amplitude in May 2026, but for now, it’s still a standalone product with its own pricing.

Statsig’s core use case is measuring how each feature release lands with users. Its capabilities include:

Experimentation: A/B and multivariate tests, plus sequential tests, switchback tests, and multi-armed bandits, with variance reduction built into the stats engine.

Feature flags: Targeted, scheduled rollouts that roll back automatically when a release hurts your metrics.

Product and web analytics: Funnels, paths, retention, and cohort reports for granular insights into user engagement over time. Segmentation lets you see how each experiment group interacts with the product features.

Session replay: Recordings annotated with flag checks and experiment exposures to analyze individual user behavior.

Infra analytics: Logs, metrics, traces, and alerts that tie incidents to the rollout, experiment, or flag behind them.

Visual editor: A Chrome extension for no-code website experiments that marketers can launch without engineering support.

Overall, Statsig is a great fit for data teams running a lot of experiments and analyzing results in a data warehouse. Engineering teams get release controls and infrastructure monitoring. Statsig captures JavaScript errors as events, but it has no dedicated error tracking tool like PostHog’s, which groups errors into issues and links each one to a session replay.

How does the Statsig MCP work?

The latest version of the Statsig MCP server, released in October 2026, lets an AI agent read and change your feature flags, experiments, and dynamic configs, and read your metrics, audit logs, and Logs Explorer data.

Statsig takes a middle path between PostHog’s two modes.

Every session starts with 18 typed tools for the most common jobs, or 10 in read-only sessions. The agent reaches everything else, such as segments, holdouts, or dashboards, through a discovery tool that finds and runs operations on demand. In Statsig’s own testing, this cut input tokens by roughly 43% compared with the previous version.

The MCP connects to Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and any other MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP. You can ask which experiments are currently running, pull an experiment’s results, create flags and experiments in bulk, or find flags that have finished rolling out and remove them from your code.

Statsig’s update tools require the agent to confirm each change, and Statsig recommends you review the change first. PostHog’s CLI mode asks for the same kind of confirmation, but only on destructive tools.

Statsig’s MCP has no SQL tool. Instead, it pulls results for specific experiments and feature flags, such as overall results, results by metric, and summary charts. This makes it harder to get insights into user behavior than in PostHog, where you can ask plain-language questions and the agent will run SQL on your raw event data.

How much does it cost to use Statsig MCP?

Statsig doesn’t list a separate price for the MCP, and it isn’t limited to any plan. What you pay depends on your Statsig plan.

Statsig’s pricing has three tiers:

Developer: Free, with 2M events per month, unlimited flag and config checks, 50,000 session replays, 1-year analytics retention, and unlimited seats. Above 2M events, flags keep working, but experiment results stop being calculated.

Pro: $150/month per project, with 5M events included, then $0.05 per 1,000 events. It adds 100,000 session replays, unlimited analytics retention, and change reviews and approvals.

Enterprise: Custom pricing, adding warehouse-native deployment, SSO, role-based access control, and volume discounts.

For market context, the median annual Statsig contract is $82,500 a year, and deals range from $14,650 to $199,250 (Vendr, last updated in February 2026).

What if your goal is user value, not experiments? Try Userpilot!

PostHog and Statsig are both highly specialized solutions for teams that mainly want to ship, experiment, manage flags, or query product analytics data from developer tools.

If your goal is helping users get value from your product, Userpilot is a better fit.

Our funnels, path, and trend analytics show you where visitors experience friction; session recordings and in-app feedback help you understand why the issues occur; and segmentation shows exactly which users are affected.

Then you can guide them to product value in less time by building targeted experiences across channels like in-app, email, and mobile messages.
