Challenge: Engaging different customer segments

When Beable first turned to Userpilot, they needed a tool that would help them show “the wow in the product” to the evaluators.

However, they soon discovered that this wasn’t the only challenge they faced. They also needed a way to communicate with students directly, for example, to onboard them, without direct teacher supervision. And, of course, train teachers on how to maximize the product value.

Most importantly, Beable realized they needed more effective ways to collect feedback and analyze their user engagement for better-informed decision-making.

Solution: Leveraging an all-in-one solution

Beable used a few Userpilot analytics and feedback features to measure its product performance and track user interactions with its product.

To track feature engagement, Ann Marie first used Google Analytics 4 but found it too complex.

First, to tag the features, she needed developer help, which slowed things down. She also found the reporting features “cryptic.”

Userpilot solved both problems. It allowed her to tag features from the front end without any coding. And the reporting became much more intuitive and user-friendly.

Here’s an example:

The team can easily track how many users visit its professional development service, Educator Academy. Before adopting Userpilot, they only had anecdotal data on the performance of the service.

We previously used a 3rd party tool to provide our teacher with professional development. Anecdotally, we heard that teachers didn’t like leaving our site to learn another tool. We could see that in 2022, we had just 105 unique users in that other product.

We spent time this year creating our own Educator Academy. Then we tagged the page in Userpilot, and since releasing in December 2023, we’ve had 1,681 unique customers visit the Educator Academy page that contains all the lessons for teachers.

To track student engagement with their content, Beable uses Userpilot’s funnel reports.

Here’s an example of one of their funnels:

  • The user clicks on a spotlight to trigger a flow.
  • The user watches a video on what it means to be investigative.
  • They see the survey.
  • They complete the survey.

For more detailed insights, they break down the results by customer sites.

Survey analytics to monitor feedback collection

  • To drive student engagement and collect their ideas, they ask them questions like “What kinds of prizes do you want to win in a contest?”

On a recent survey, we asked: ‘What kinds of prizes would you like to win?’ 2,969 students clicked to take the survey from a button on our site, and 2,274 completed the survey (76.59%).

  • To run the contests.
  • For preference testing surveys with teachers, for example, to let them choose their favorite designs.

We are using surveys now to ask users about possible re-designs of pages. We started a survey on March 26 and to date (April 4, 2024), it’s been shown to 852 users and 41 users have completed it. This is informing our product development roadmap and process (Option A is the current page).

Resource center analytics to measure its performance

Userpilot’s resource center helps Beable provide self-service support for different user personas: teachers, administrators, and students.

Userpilot allows them to see exactly who accesses which resource center module. In this way, they can optimize their content to better assist their users.
